Biosolids are Beneficial PR Campaign
This PR campaign was on behalf of water treatment plants, aiming to inform lawmakers and government officials about the realities of biosolids. After water is treated and returned to the environment, treatment plants need a place for the solids left behind. One of the most practical uses? Applying treated biosolids to agricultural fields.
However, concerns about PFAS have led some states to ban this practice, forcing biosolids into landfills or incinerators—alternatives that come with their own environmental and economic downsides. NAWCA is working to educate decision-makers that while PFAS are worth reducing, the trace amounts in biosolids aren’t enough to be harmful. Meanwhile, this method remains the most cost-effective solution for treatment plants and the communities they serve—while also benefiting soils.
